PIA's 2011 Internship Program Wraps Up
Aug. 15, 2011
Columbus, Ohio -
Professional Insurance Agents Association of Ohio, Inc. (PIA) 2011 Internship Program
came to a conclusion Friday as the interns gave their final presentations at PIA’s office in Gahanna.
This year's program introduced 11 college students to the independent insurance agency system as they spent five weeks working with an agency and five weeks with a company.
The program promotes independent insurance careers as a desirable choice for college students. As of today, 57 college students have completed the program. Forty-one percent of PIA's interns from the previous five years are now working in Ohio's independent insurance agency system.
During the wrap-up meeting, interns gave presentations demonstrating what they learned and accomplished for their company and agency hosts. Projects such as social media research, coverage comparisons and market expansion research were done by the interns.
“I came into this internship not knowing anything at all about insurance, and walked away now considering a career in it,” 2011 Intern Katherine Klein, a junior at Capital University, said.
PIA has recruited and selected interns from 13 different colleges and universities around the state. Agency and company hosts are growing each year as well - 33 agencies and 16 companies have provided experience for our interns.
Congratulations to all the interns who have now completed PIA’s program. PIA is greatly appreciative of the agency and company hosts who provided invaluable experience and a glimpse into the independent agency system. For a listing of interns, as well as company and agency hosts, click here
