Perpetuation and staffing have continued to be
growing concerns since PIA first received confirmation
from agent forums held throughout Ohio in 2004.

In that same year, PIA’s Agents Resource Committee introduced the idea of creating an internship program to address these issues by attracting young professionals to the industry and generating interest in insurance careers.

A task force was created to develop the program, and in 2006, the pilot internship program began with four interns from two Ohio colleges spending five weeks with an agency and five weeks with a company.

Fast-forward to today, and not only have 55 college students completed the program, but 46 percent of those students who have entered the workforce have accepted positions in Ohio's insurance industry.

To ensure this program can continue to make a difference for our industry, the Foundation for the Advancement of Insurance Professionals was established to collect funds to be used to continue to provide financial support to PIA’s Internship Program.

With strong support from companies, PIA member agencies and various industry supporters, the Foundation is on its way to financial success.

I just want to let you know that I recently accepted a job at State Auto as a Claims Central Specialist. I start on Monday and I am really excited. I am almost positive that I got this job because of my internship with PIA. I want to thank the PIA once again for giving me the experience that led me to this job and hopefully it will turn out to be a rewarding career! Thank you!
