A breath of new life

PIA is working to perpetuate the industry through the annual summer internship program

Through regular conversations with agents and company representatives, PIA has determined that industry perpetuation is a top concern facing the insurance industry. In an effort to meet this growing need, PIA has developed an annual summer internship program to increase visibility of the industry among young people and introduce them to career opportunities the industry holds.

In the first year of the internship, PIA selected four college students to participate in the program. The students spent half the summer with a carrier and half with a PIA member agency to gain a well-rounded view of the insurance industry. As these interns neared graduation, each has contacted PIA to ask for assistance in finding an insurance-related position.

In 2007, PIA increased the number of participating students to 12. These students hailed from four Ohio universities, and spent time among six carriers and 12 PIA member agencies.

PIA is currently in the process of selecting the 12 interns who will participate in the 2008 program.
