Take the next step in your career

Earn your Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation

The prestigious CIC designation is a true mark of excellence. Learn proven business techniques from the country’s foremost insurance experts. The advanced curriculum is designed for experienced insurance professionals. The CIC designation program will help you avoid E&O claims by staying up to date on the latest issues.

Practical, hands-on information taught by insurance practitioners makes the CIC certification program the agent’s choice for insurance continuing education.

The CIC designation program provides an advanced level of study for company and agency personnel. This is the most practical insurance education program on the market today. Each institute includes 2.5 days of classroom instruction, followed by an optional examination. After successfully passing five of six exams, participants are conferred as CIC designees. To earn the CIC designation, five of six institutes must be completed within five calendar years after passing the first examination.

Who Should Attend?

Agency owners, producers, agents, brokers and account managers. Company personnel, such as underwriters, claims adjusters and marketing representatives, will also find the CIC program helpful. To attend a CIC institute, you must be a licensed agent, broker or solicitor; or have at least two years' full-time experience in the insurance industry or as a risk management professional; or have served as a full-time insurance or risk management faculty member at an accredited college or university.

James K. Ruble Graduate Seminars

Attention CIC designees: Are you looking to get more out of your annual update? If so, the James K. Ruble Graduate Seminars are for you. The Graduate Seminars look at the latest developments in the five areas of the CIC program through the eyes of a competent risk manager. They are dedicated to taking CIC designees beyond a mere knowledge of policy coverage to an in-depth understanding of specific risks and exposures.

A special option is available for individuals working to earn their CIC designation. With the "CRM for CIC" option, a student may take one CRM course in place of one CIC Institute. Therefore, a CIC candidate may earn the CIC designation by completing any four CIC Institutes plus one CRM course.
